Läänemaa ja Saaremaa päästjad harjutasid täna Kesselaiul peetud õppusel reageerimist metsatulekahjule väikesaarel.
Õppuse legendi kohaselt puhkes täna kell 9.20 Kesselaiul metsa- ja maastikutulekahju. Hinnanguliselt põles mets 1,5 hektari ulatuses ja tuli levis saarevahi maja poole. Vigastada oli saanud ka kaks turisti, kellel olid põletushaavad näol ja kehal.
Tulekahjule reageerisid kutselised päästjad Lihula ja Orissaare komandodest, Haapsalu komando töölaev, politsei- ja piirivalveameti alus PVL-12 Valve ning Muhu ja Virtsu vabatahtlike merepäästerühmad. Et Kesselaiul päästevarustus veel puudub, toodi kogu vajaminev päästetehnika mandrilt.
Õppuse korraldaja Risto Roometi sõnul sujus õppus hästi ja õppusele reageerijate koostöö sujus ladusalt. Ka päästevarustus jõudis saarele suuremate tõrgeteta. Piirivalvealus Valve, mis toimetas saarele Orissaare päästjad ja Kuressaare operatiivkorrapidaja, jõudis Roometi sõnul kohale 45 minutiga, mis on tema hinnangul väga hea tulemus. Õppuse korraldaja lisas, et Haapsalu töölaeva ja kummipaatide liikumist segas tugev tuul.
Läänemaa päästeosakonna juhi Andres Liiva sõnul oli Kesselaiu õppus viimane seerias, kus harjutati päästjate reageerimist õnnetustele väikesaartel. Varem on õppused peetud Lääne maakonda kuuluvatel Hobulaiul, Osmussaarel ja Vormsis.
