Laupäeval, 8. märtsil toimusid Haapsalu Raudteejaamas XI Eesti lahtised meistrivõistlused viskitundmises, millele registreerus 8 võistkonda erinevatest Eesti paikadest ja valdkondadest.
Võitjaks tuli suure edumaaga juba kolmandat aastat järjest Põltsamaa Viskiklubi koosseisus Andres Kert, David Schreyer ja Guido Pook. Teise koha saavutas Tallinna Viskiklubi ning kolmandaks jäi Lõuna-Eesti viskiklubi võistkond.
Võistluste žürii esimehe ja Viskiklubi UBC presidendi Toomas Tiiveli sõnul nõuab võistlus osalejatelt täpseid teadmisi viski erinevate päritolumaade ja valmistamisomaduste kohta. Suuremat rõhku pööratakse sealjuures Šoti viski ja kultuuri tundmisele.
“Lisaks viskit puudutavatele küsimustele panime osalejate teadmised proovile Šotimaast, selle ajaloost, kultuurist kui ka hetkepoliitikast. Õnneks on meistrivõistluste tase Eestis aastatega aina kõrgemaks muutunud ning huviliste teadmised viskikultuuri ja -tootmise kohta järjest kasvanud. Põltsamaa Viskiklubi oli nii Šoti kultuuri kui viskitundise koha pealt head kodutööd teinud ja see tõi neile juba mitmedat aastat järjest võidu,” sõnas Tiivel.
Võistluse korraldaja ja Šotimaa Sõprade Klubi liige Mari Mandre lisas, et tänavuse viskivõistluse muutis eriliseks ennekõike selle toimumiskoht – Haapsalu ajalooline jaamahoone.
“Idee selleks tuli Haapsalu linnapealt Urmas Sukleselt ning võeti Šoti Klubi poolt tänuga vastu. Neil päevil toimusid Haapsalus Šoti pidustused, mis tõid linna palju Šotimaa kui ka viskihuvilisi, viskivõistlus sobis sellesse konteksti suurepäraselt. Esmakordselt osales võistlusel Eesti Filharmoonia Kammerkoor, mis tõestab, et huvi viskikultuuri vastu Eestis on jõuliselt väljumas kitsast fanaatikute ringist,” rääkis Mandre.
XI Eesti lahtiseid meistrivõistlusi viskitundmises korraldas Šotimaa Sõprade Klubi koostöös maaletoojatega Pernod Ricard Estonia, Prike ja Tridens.
Traditsiooniks saanud võistlust peetakse kahes voorus: esmalt küsitakse võistlejatelt teoreetilisi küsimusi viski tootmispiirkondade ja -kultuuri kohta, mille järel asutakse praktikale ehk pimedegusteerimisele.
Ürituse eesmärk on arendada viskikultuuri Eestis ning anda võimalus sarnase suunitlusega klubidel üle Eesti vähemalt kord aastas kokku tulla ning jõudu katsuda.
Šotimaa Sõprade Klubi ehk Šoti Klubi tähistab sel aastal oma 21. aastapäeva, seistes hea Šoti kultuuri, traditsioonide ning viski kui osa selle iidse kultuuripärandi hoidmise eest Eestis.
